Some On-Page SEO Tips to boost your SERP

Posted by aminshit On September - 6 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

If you are looking to improve your rankings for your website then you don’t need to pay for a SEO company. Here are 5 excellent tips which will get you on your way:

1) Tag Titles: putting the keywords that you want to target into you title tags is absolutely crucial which is why it is strange that so many people forget to do it. At one time you could “stuff” your title tags with keywords but that didn’t provide much value to visitors so now you don’t want to include more than three to keep the search engines happy.

2) Domain Name: putting your targeted keywords into your domain name can give your SEO efforts a tremendous boost. You can even use hyphens to include more than one keyword in your URL. Don’t sacrifice your visitor’s experience for the sake of SEO however as it is almost always better to have a catchy domain name which users can relate to.

3) Alt Tags: describing your images in your Alt tags with keywords not only helps SEO but also visitors who use text only web browsers. Never stuff your Alt tags with keywords though as this will lead to you being penalized by the search engines.

4) Keyword density: everyone has a different idea about what keyword density to have in your content but it is usually between 1-2%. Keep search engine optimization in mind when you write your content but don’t write just for the search engines. Having a great ranking is not going to help you if your visitors leave your website because it doesn’t make any sense!

5) Don’t use tricks: many companies may engage in so called “black hat” techniques which trick the search engines into giving a website a top ranking. Unfortunately the search engines inevitably always catch these cheaters and penalize them. This can mean having your website ranking temporarily or even permanently penalized. When you are choosing SEO packages always ensure that your provider is not trying to cheat the system. Quality search engine optimization takes time and effort and if something seems like it is too good to be true it probably is!
